Binghamton University students honored by SUNY Chancellor

John R. Ryan, chancellor of the State University of New York, recently honored 11 Binghamton University students with the 2006 Chancellor’s Awards for Student Excellence.

Recipients include: New York residents Giya Abraham of New City, Andrew Gardner of Brockport, Matthew Gervais of Liverpool, Trevor Gomberg of Thiells, Michael Hartwell of Canandaigua, Peter Longo of Hopewell Junction, Timothy Nevinger of Vestal, Karen Sidi of Plainview, Meredith Woitach of Vestal and Weiqin Zhang of Flushing and David Henann of Wind Gap, Pennsylvania. In total 270 college students from 62 SUNY campuses were honored.

“Recipients of this year’s awards have excelled academically and, in many cases, far exceeded even their own expectations in their pursuit of higher education and community involvement,” Ryan said.

The awards are given annually to students who earn a GPA of 3.78 or higher and record a significant contribution to their campus or local community. They recognize students who have best demonstrated the integration of academic excellence with accomplishments in the areas of leadership, athletics, community service, creative and performing arts or career achievement.
