Binghamton University forum to address race, class, Katrina

Binghamton University will host a forum to discuss how race and class affected the ways in which people were impacted by the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Titled "Race, Class and the Politics of Katrina" the forum will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 6, in room 149 of the Science 1 building campus. The forum is free and open to the public.

The discussion will include how neighborhoods in New Orleans, which had predominantly low-income and black residents, were severely impacted by hurricane. Presenters will include Randy McGuire, professor of anthropology, Mark Reisinger, assistant professor of geography, and Nigel Westmaas, sociologist.

The forum will be followed by question and answer period. The event is sponsored by the Binghamton Political Initiative (BPI), a group of politically and socially conscious students and professors.
