Mitzvah Marathon planned for 9/11 remembrance, fundraiser for hurricane victims

The Chabad House Jewish Student Center at Binghamton University will hold its annual, campus-wide Mitzvah Marathon in remembrance of Sept. 11 victims from 9:11 a.m.-9:11 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12.

The event is designed to present members of the campus community with opportunities to do a good deed in memory of the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. A pavilion will be set up near the fountain in front of the Bartle Library Tower, where participants will be able to contribute to charity, sign up to volunteer in the community, make sandwiches for the homeless and donate food or blood. This year, a special emphasis will be placed on collecting money for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.

Participants will fill out a form with their good deed that will be attached to a picture of a Sept. 11 victim. The pictures will be hung along the walkway near the fountain.

The program is co-sponsored by Hillel at Binghamton University and the Jewish Heritage Programs. For more information, call Chabad House at 797-0015.
