Binghamton University will honor the late Martin Luther King Jr. with two events, starting with the acclaimed “Dream Alive” program, which will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, January 17, in the Watters Theater on the Binghamton University campus.

Joe Rogers, who served as the youngest lieutenant governor in the country and the highest ranking African American state elected official in Colorado history, will present the program which is free and open to the public.

The Dream Alive program, which is dedicated to the memory and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. and leaders of the Civil Rights Movement, has been presented at colleges, corporations and conferences throughout the United States.  Rogers, through a live commentary, takes audience members back in time to the renowned 1963 march on Washington where King delivered his “I Have A Dream” speech and to his final words delivered in 1968 in Memphis.

At 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 26, the Pin Points Theater Company will perform “The Meeting”, a fictitious gathering between Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X, which answers the question of what would have happened if the two had met before they were assassinated. This event, which is also free and open to the public, will take place in the Mandela Room of the University Union.
