Author and lecturer Joan Jacob Brumberg will discuss “From Corsets to Body Piercings: American Girl and Body Image in Historical Perspective” at 7 p.m. Monday, April 19, in room 133 of the Binghamton University Union. The presentation, which is free and open to the public, is part of the University’s Eating Awareness Committee’s celebration of Health and Wellness Month.

Brumberg is a Stephen H Weiss professor at Cornell University, where she teaches in the fields of history, human development, and women’s studies. She is author of Fasting Girls, a record of the history of anorexia nervosa, and The Body Project, a study of how American girls' relationships with their bodies have changed.

Her research on American women and girls has been recognized by the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Rockefeller Foundation, the Society of American Historians and the MacDowell Colony.
