Binghamton University and IBM challenge future engineers

Binghamton University’s Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering and Applied Science and IBM will sponsor a National Engineers Week Challenge for middle school, high school and college students from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. Saturday, February 22, on the University campus.

The challenge will feature a full slate of activities for young people to learn more about engineering while having a lot of fun.

All events are free. Participants will be able to create web pages, drive a simulator, steer a laser beam, explore robots at work, experience speech through engineering and see demonstrations of a solar-powered car.

A highlight of the challenge will be a spaghetti bridge building contest. Teams will compete in a timed head-to-head competition to build a bridge that can hold the most weight. Two divisions composed of high school and college teams will be judged separately to determine a winner in each category.

Sign-ups are encouraged. For more information, contact Marie Ciotoli at 607-755-9911.
