Binghamton University SBDC client named New York State Veteran Entrepreneur of the Year
Bill Ketcham, a Binghamton University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) client and owner of North Country Aviation Services, Inc. was recently presented with the New York State Veteran Entrepreneur of the Year award. The award, presented by the New York State SBDC, is given to a veteran owned small business, which exemplifies real entrepreneurial spirit and displays self reliance and exceptional work ethic. Ketcham was chosen from more than 1,100 entries.
A retired US Navy Gulf War veteran, Ketcham served as an aircraft mechanic and flight engineer at Naval air stations around the world. After 20 years of service, Ketcham returned to the Southern Tier to work as an aircraft mechanic for FirstAIR, located at the Greater Binghamton Airport. Over several years, Ketcham’s unique expertise and reputation for quality made FirstAIR one of the most respected companies in the field.
When the owner of FirstAIR decided to pursue other ventures, Ketcham saw an opportunity and purchased the business. Working with Doug Boyce from the SBDC, Ketcham developed a business plan and set of financial forecasts for his company, North Country Aviation Services. Ketcham's plans for the future include the addition of personnel, specialized equipment and expansion of the services he now offers to his customers at the Greater Binghamton Airport.
