Binghamton University Philanthropy Incubator is now seeking applicants

The Binghamton University student-run Philanthropy Incubator Project is now accepting applications from local nonprofit organizations.  Applications are due by 5 p.m. on March 31, and funding will be awarded in early May.  Those who qualify will be eligible to receive individual grants of up to $4,000.

Organizations who wish to apply must be located in the Southern Tier/Central New York region and have been an internship or field placement site for Binghamton University social work or public administration students in the past year.  Applications will be evaluated on their capacity to maximize impact for the prospective grantee.

The Philanthropy Incubator is funded by Campus Compact and Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund, as a mechanism to teach students in the Master of Public Administration (MPA) and Master of Social Work (MSW) programs about philanthropy.  Under the direction of MPA faculty member David Campbell, students design and implement the grant making process, as well as fund raise to support the project.

Last semester, students laid a foundation for the Incubator and made recommendations regarding mission, strategy, revenue generation and organizing structure.  This semester, students plan on building on that foundation and contributing to the long-term sustainability of the project.
