BINGHAMTON, NY – Binghamton University will host a series of events to commemorate Enough Is Enough Week, scheduled for April 12 – 16.   All events are free and open to the public.

During the month of April, campuses across the country will speak out, engage in dialogue, and take action to stem violence in college universities and schools across the country.  Binghamton University’s Enough Is Enough Committee in conjunction with the Broome County Crime Victims Assistance Center, REACH (Real Education About College Health) Peers, and Voices Against Violence, will work with other student groups to bring attention to these important issues.

The Clothes Line Project (CLP), organized by the REACH peers, will display t-shirts around campus starting Tuesday, April 13. CLP was started in 1990 to address the issue of violence against women. It is a vehicle for women affected by violence to express their emotions by decorating a shirt, which is then displayed on a clothesline. The collection serves as testimony to the problem of violence against women.

An Empty Place at the Table will be held in the Tillman Lobby of the University Union on Tuesday and at the Downtown Center on Thursday, April 15. The purpose of An Empty Place at the Table is to honor the lives of the people who were murdered in acts of domestic violence, and to increase public understanding of the impact of domestic, dating and sexual violence on families and the community.

A Dating Violence Awareness event will be held 8 p.m.  Wednesday, April 14, in Lecture Hall 2.  The program will include a discussion on dating violence by Voices Against Violence and entertainment by student groups, including The Vibes, The Crosbys, and the Ballrooom Dance Team.

At these events, a ‘greeting paper’ for Huntsville will be available for visitors to sign. The paper will be mailed to University of Alabama at Huntsville in response to a recent shooting on campus that resulted in three deaths.  

At 9 p.m. Thursday, April 15, a poetry slam will be held at the Belmar on Main Street in Binghamton and hosted by Voices Against Violence, Binghamton Slam Poetry, and the Binghamton University Students Poet’s Society.
