Binghamton University nursing students conduct annual disaster drill

The annual disaster drill coordinated by Binghamton University’s Decker School of Nursing students, faculty and staff will begin at 9:40 a.m. Monday, May 3, in the University Events Center.

The drill will simulate a gas leak and explosion scenario, as well as a traumatic bus accident. The drill will come to a close at 1 p.m. when a debriefing will begin.

During the mock disaster drill, the Events Center will act as a temporary medical center, as assistance will be provided by responders from the American Red Cross, Vestal EMS, Metropolitan Emergency response team, Harpur’s Ferry and the New York State University Police at Binghamton.

Participants will utilize the Incident Command System (ICS) as an education tool.  ICS is a standardized, all hazard incident management system used throughout the United States.
