Travel Information
Please plan to arrive in Binghamton no later than Sunday, August 17, the day before the Exchange Student Welcome Breakfast & Orientation Meeting and International Student Orientation Program. We suggest that you coordinate your travel so that you arrive in Binghamton between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m., especially if you will be living on-campus.
Binghamton is served by the Binghamton Regional Airport and Greyhound and Coach USA Shortline bus companies. Train service is not available.
Please be advised that we are no longer able to pick students up at the Binghamton bus stations or airport.
Travel by air:
Four airlines service the Binghamton Regional Airport: US Airways, Northwest Airlink, United Express and Delta. For arrival schedules, visit the Internet site of the Binghamton Regional Airport (http://www.binghamtonairport.com/). Only Delta offers direct flights from New York City (JFK), but flights from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (US Airways); Atlanta, Georgia (Delta); Detroit, Michigan (Northwest); and Washington, D.C (United) are also available.
Taxi service is available from the Binghamton Regional Airport to the University and will cost approximately $18.00. Taxi drivers are usually waiting for passengers inside the terminal. If not, just go to the desk marked "Ground Transportation" or use the free phones nearby. A small placard containing telephone numbers for taxi companies is included in your acceptance packet. You should expect about a 10-15 minute trip from the airport to Binghamton University.
Travel by bus:
Two bus lines service Binghamton: Greyhound and Coach USA Shortline. Each bus line has its own terminal in downtown Binghamton. Shortline buses are more frequent and convenient. Bus schedules change frequently, so please check the Shortline or Greyhound web sites for the most recent schedule before you return your “Arrival Details” form to us. Schedules can be found at http://shortlinebus.com/ or http://www.greyhound.com/.
Unfortunately, the bus to Binghamton does not leave directly from any New York City airports. You will need to take the Gray Line Airport Shuttle from the airport (Kennedy, LaGuardia or Newark) to the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Reservations are not required for the shuttle to the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Vans depart from the airports approximately every thirty (30) minutes from 7:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Upon arrival at the airport, go to any Port Authority Ground Transportation Desk and request Gray Line Air Shuttle to the Port Authority Bus Terminal. You will be booked on the next departure. If necessary, you may purchase a ticket from the driver. The Gray Line Shuttle will transport you to the Shortline Bus Departure/Arrival Track located in the North Wing, 3rd floor. The trip from the airport to the Port Authority will take between one hour and 1 hour, 45 minutes. To be safe, then, you should allow yourself a full two hours to get from the airport to the Port Authority Bus Terminal.
The bus ride from NYC to Binghamton will take approximately 3 ½ hours. The entire trip from flight arrival to arrival in Binghamton can take as long as 6 hours (or even longer). The cost of shuttle and bus to Binghamton combined should be around $75.
Taxis are usually on-hand waiting for passengers at these locations. Should there not be any taxis immediately available, there are pay phones outside the bus terminals. A small placard containing telephone numbers for taxi companies is included in your acceptance packet. The cost for the 5 minute trip is about $6.
However you choose to arrive, please notify the Office of International Programs if you encounter any changes in travel plans such as delays, cancellations, etc. The office phone number is 1-607-777-2336.
