Several scholarships are available for students participating in study abroad programs. Some are based purely on merit, while others weigh merit but are based on financial need. Scholarship application deadlines are strictly adhered to and are similar to those of study abroad application deadlines, which are usually around the middle part of the semester before the program begins. Applicants need not be admitted to programs in order to apply for scholarships, but receipt of scholarships is conditional upon acceptance into the study abroad program.
Each scholarship listed below is highly competitive. Applications should be prepared with attentiveness to the eligibility requirements and criteria for selection. Your best writing and best presentation are essential for a chance of a successful application. Plan ahead and allow your references ample time to write on behalf of you. Most scholarship programs offer several awards each cycle. Brochures and applications may be obtained in the Office of International Programs.

| Evelio Figueroa Memorial Study Abroad Scholarship |
Made possible by the many donors who have endowed the scholarship in his name, the Evelio Figueroa Memorial Study Abroad Scholarship is for undergraduate students at Binghamton University who wish to acquire a deep understanding of another culture through study abroad but do not have the financial ability to cover the cost of the experience.
Deadline: April 1, with one competition
each year for fall semester and academic year programs. This
scholarship program aims to support students who engage in
cultural and/or foreign language immersion experiences abroad,
from which they gain an in-depth knowledge of a particular
country, culture, or region, an understanding of concrete global
and international issues and a perspective on the connections
between their destination and the United States. Recipients
are expected to demonstrate their readiness to immerse themselves
fully in the culture, and preferably the language of another
country, and to bring back the benefits of what they have learned
as a service to their community. |
