Thursday,  August 27,  2015

8am - 11am: Check-In for New Students on Ground/Even Numbered Floors

  • Students who live on the ground/even numbered floors of their building will move in during this designated time.
  • Where: Residential Communities

11am - 7pm: Recreation Center at the East Gym Open

  • Come check out FitSpace and group fitness classes. No membership required opening weekend. Must have University ID card. Memberships on sale.
  • Where: East Gym

11:30am - 2:30pm: Check-In for New Students on Odd Numbered Floors

  • Students who live on the odd numbered floors of their building will move in during this designated time.
  • Where: Residential Communities

3pm - 4pm: Parent/Guardian/Family Welcome to the Community

  • It's time to say good-bye to your student and start (or continue) your life as the parent/guardian of a college student. Come meet the Assistant Director and Faculty Master of your student's residential community and learn what to expect in this next step.
  • Where: Newing - C4 Multipurpose Room

3pm - 4pm: Floor Meetings

  • You've met your RA and your roommate, now's your chance to meet the rest of the people living on your floor!
  • Where: See your RA for location

4pm: Building/Area-Wide Meetings

  • Come to the main lounge and meet your building staff and neighbors!
  • Where: See your area schedule for location

4pm - 5:30pm: Binghamton Parent and Family Reception

  • Parents, guardians and other family members are invited to a light reception. Relieve some stress of the big move-in day with a chair massage or light snack. Everyone will walk away with a small Binghamton giveaway, and some will win a Binghamton "swag" bag! President Stenger will offer welcoming remarks at 4:30pm.
  • Where: Old Union Hall

5:30pm: New Student Welcome Picnic

  • Enjoy a BBQ dinner provided by Sodexo Dining Services with your friends and fellow students from other residential communities.
  • Receive your free Class of 2019 T-shirt sponsored by the Binghamton University Alumni Association.
  • Where: Peace Quad

9pm: Drive-In Movies

  • Looking for a little fun? Why not sit back and enjoy the outdoor movie experience while making some new friends? Movies will begin at 9pm (or as soon as it gets dark) in the co-rec fields- Mad Max at Mountainview and Pitch Perfect 2 at Newing.

10am - Noon: University Wide Academic College Events

  • College of Community and Public Affairs (CCPA): Faculty from the Human Development Department will discuss their research emphasizing value added to the academic and professional field. Lunch to follow.
    • Location: University Downtown Center Room 220A/B
  • Decker School of Nursing:Undergraduate research opportunities at the Decker School of Nursing: Why, what, how & who.
    • Join us for a session with the dean and faculty on why you may want to be involved in research as an undergraduate as well as what areas are being studied. We will also talk about how you go about seeking those opportunities and who you might consider work with as an undergraduate.

    • Location: Academic B Room 347

  • Harpur College of Arts and Sciences: All the departments and programs are here to welcome you today! Come say hello or ask questions about classes or different fields of study. The Academic Advising Office is also available to answer specific questions about your classes and requirements.
  • School of Management: SOM Dean's Challenge & Networking Event
    • This is a wonderful opportunity for incoming students to network with SOM student leaders, faculty and classmates!
    • Location: AA G08

11am - 6pm: Heart Safe Campus CPR Training

  • Stop by anytime to get a quick, 15 minute, training on CPR and cardiac arrest! Participate and receive a free souvenir drinking cup and enter for a chance to win a variety of gift cards from local restaurants. Support the 3rd annual HEARTSafe event and our efforts to maintain our "HEARTSafe Campus" accreditation. Hosted by Harpur's Ferry Student Volunteer Ambulance Service

11am: Newing Campus/Academic Tours

  • Join your RAs for a tour of campus and find out where important offices are as well as locations where your classes will be!
  • Where: Meet in your building lobby

1pm: Newing Fun in the Sun

  • Looking for something to do? Come hang out and enjoy the sun while participating or watching kickball or basketball. The games will be pick-up style and are a great way to meet new people!
  • Not into sports? We'll also have card games going on at the picnic tables and around the Co-Rec Field
  • Where: Newing College Co-Rec Field

1pm - 2pm: Newing Transfer Social

  • Come meet your fellow Newing transfers and get to know some "seasoned" returners that can assist you with your transitions. After the social, we'll head to the University Transfer Social together.
  • Where: C4 Commons

2pm - 4pm: Transfer Student Social

  • Come meet other transfer students while enjoying free refreshments! It's open to both new and returning students and is a great opportunity to make friends on campus. All are welcome, so feel free to bring your roommate or friends!
  • Where: CIW Commons

5pm - 7pm: Newing Welcome Back BBQ

  • It's dinner time and you must be hungry! Enjoy some barbeque and don't forget to bring your student ID! At dinner you'll also have the chance to meet with the Newing College Council Executive Board. They will be handing out popcorn and snow cones to Newing residents, so be sure to look for them.

6pm: Women's Soccer vs. Canisius

  • Where: Bearcat Sports Complex

6pm - Midnight: Munchies

  • Grad some snacks or rent a dvd for the night!
  • Where: University Union

6pm - Midnight: Bowling & Billiards

  • We have a bowling alley and billiards on campus! Come down and rent shoes, play a game or shoot some pool!
  • Where: University Union

7pm - 11pm: Shindig at the Fountain

  • Come out and enjoy the shindig - featuring food, rides and a concert brought to you by the Student Association.
  • Where: University "Spine"

7:30pm - 8:30pm: Newing Floor Community Builders

  • Get a chance to meet new friends on your floor while participating in fun activities!
  • Where: Floor lounges

8pm - 1am: Late Nite Binghamton

  • Check out Late Nite - we'll have free food, Avengers: Age of Ultron, a concert by Luke Metzler and much more!
  • Where: University Union

  • Head over to the Newing Fire Pit s'mores. While you enjoy the glow of the fire, get to know more about how to get involved in Newing including Newing College Council!

11am: Newing Building Brunch Mixer

  • Join your RA and the rest of your floor in the lobby of your building and head over to have brunch in the C4 dining hall! Sit with some new friends and meet new floor-mates.
  • Where: Meet in your building lobby

1pm - 5pm: Rec Fest

  • Take part in the Biggest Day of Play! Check out our 39 club sports, the "Club House", participate in the climbing wall, obstacle course, or one of many interactive game opportunities. Try out the zip line as we open the new Ropes Challenge Course in the woods! Play Disc Golf on our 18-hole course or try your hand at Bubble Soccer. Join us for the grand opening of the new Recreational Turf Field!
  • Live DJ, free food samples and giveaways. Enter raffle for a chance to win a free membership, FitBit, gift cards and other prizes! Make sure you come dressed and ready to play! Complete details available at play.binghamton.edu.

4:30pm - 6:30pm: Have You Met Faculty Master Mark?

  • You've probably seen him - at orientation, walking around Newing or riding his bike. This is your first opportunity to introduce yourself to the academic leader of Newing College and receive the 15-16 Faculty Master Mark button! Dessert will be available, so stop by upstairs after dinner!

6pm - 10:30pm: Bowling & Billiards

7pm: Newing All Residents Floor Meeting

  • Now that everyone is back together, new and returning students, meet your entire floor and work together to set a positive tone for the rest of the year!
