Information for preceptors and experiential practice partners
Binghamton University’s School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SOPPS) is inviting pharmacists, other professional healthcare providers and pharmacy practice sites to consider taking an active role in educating pharmacist practitioners of the future.
The innovative, integrated curriculum being developed for our doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) students will prepare them to succeed in their academic pharmacy-practice experiences, as well as give them the confidence and competence to practice following graduation.
To achieve this, the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences will:
- Use advanced, active-learning methods
- Provide cutting-edge technologies and equipment in pharmacy practice, compounding and simulation laboratories
- Incorporate translational and interprofessional care practice models
- Provide access to outstanding, evidence-based resources
We are actively seeking healthcare professionals from a variety of pharmacy practice sites who are interested in partnering with us and our students.
Pharmacists and other healthcare providers
Pharmacists and other healthcare providers who are interested in serving as preceptors for introductory and/or advanced pharmacy practice experiences are invited to become a preceptor/adjunct faculty member. Complete the Preceptor Application.
Preceptor/Adjunct Faculty (Voluntary) Requirements
- Minimum of one (1) year of full-time pharmacy practice experience or practice relevant experience, and preferably six months relevant experience in current position. For advanced acute care/general medicine or pharmacy specialty elective rotations (e.g. Pediatrics, Infectious Disease, Management/Administration, etc.), a minimum of two (2) years of experience or completion of advanced training such as a residency or fellowship is required.
- Pharmacists must be licensed and in good standing with a Board of Pharmacy. Other health care providers eligible for preceptor appointment must hold current licensure and be in good standing with a licensing professional board.
- The preceptor's organization or site should be licensed (and/or accredited) and in good standing with national, state or local regulatory bodies.
- Commitment to serve as a supervising instructor, role model, and mentor, and to facilitate student achievement of the assigned professional practice experiences objectives/goals.
- Support and attend University and/or School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences-sponsored educational training programs designed to develop, build and enhance techniques used to facilitate on-site student learning.
- Provide accurate assessments of student performance and participate in ongoing educational performance improvement.

Adjunct (voluntary) faculty appointments provide the following benefits and opportunities:
