Message to Alumni Applicants

Many Binghamton graduates apply to law school after college, gaining valuable insights from their experiences after graduation before starting the path toward a legal career. Nationwide, about two-thirds of law school applicants are “non-seniors,” having taken one or more years off before entering law school. At Binghamton, we are committed to providing the same high quality of service to alumni law school applicants that is available to current students.

If you are planning to apply to law school and need assistance, here are some helpful tips:

  • Learn about the law school admissions process, using Pre-Law Resources website

  • Make an appointment with the Pre-law Advisor to discuss your law school plans, personal statement, list of schools and other questions. Be sure to read the Pre-law Guide before your appointment, to make best use of the time available.

  • Attend an LSAC Law School Forum, offered in major cities around the U.S. each year. Meet with law school representatives, attend informational sessions, and obtain admission materials. For a schedule of LSAC Forums, go to You are also welcome to attend the annual Binghamton University Law Day (CDC: Special Events) and pre-law meetings.

  • Alumni Call-ins are available for quick questions (10 minute limit), similar to the pre-law walk-ins available to current students. Call 607-777-6305.

  • Dean’s Letters for students and alumni of all schools at Binghamton are prepared by the Pre-law Advisor. Allow at least two weeks for preparation and mailing of the dean’s letter.

  • Check out Tips for Alumni Applicants, and other resources in the Financial Aid for Law School section of this site, as you plan how to pay for your legal education.

  • Network with other Binghamton alumni, including alumni lawyers, through the Alumni Career Network

  • Apply early to get the best results—no later than Thanksgiving (if LSAT score is available)!
