Binghamton University receives record number of freshman applications

Binghamton University received a record-high of 30,168 freshman applications for fall 2015 admission, surpassing the previous record high of 29,450 set in 2013.

“We’re excited to know that more and more people are becoming aware of the world-class educational experience that Binghamton University has to offer,” said Binghamton University President Harvey Stenger. “It’s great to break a record, but it’s greater to see so many bright students from around the world show interest in our school.”

When looking closer at underrepresented communities, the University saw an increase in applications from black and Hispanic students. In 2014, this group comprised 24.7 percent of applications; for fall 2015 admission, this group comprised 25.4 percent of applications.

“Numbers don’t lie — we continue to attract the best and brightest students from around the world,” said Interim Assistant Provost and Interim Director of Undergraduate Admissions Randall Edouard. “It’s refreshing to see applications from excellent students from all walks of life, and it’s an honor to help these students find their way here.”

International applications are also on the rise. The University received 2,030 international applications for fall 2014 admission and 2,098 applications for fall 2015 admission.
