Student Services

Almost 281 faculty, staff and graduate students from 21 different institutions attended the Student Affairs Matters: High Impact Learning Outside the Traditional Classroom Conference on Nov. 20, at the Holiday Inn in Binghamton. The day included concurrent sessions and a luncheon featuring keynote speaker George Kuh, and concluded with an interactive workshop session where participants developed plans to implement their new ideas that were inspired by the day’s presentations.

Participants rated the conference high:
•  95 percent of participants would attend a conference similar to this in the future.
•  93 percent said they would recommend this conference to their colleagues.

Participants commented:
•  This is by no means my first conference, but it was one of the best. The organization was fantastic, no one went over on time, the schedules were kept, the portions that were interactive were executed well and kept on track. Thank you to all that were involved in making this happen and making it a memorable experience!
•  I am a first semester graduate student in the Student Affairs Administration program at Binghamton and this was my first student affairs conference! I gained a great amount of insight from my peers and student affairs professionals. I am looking forward to applying the information that I have learned today in my work with students now and in the future!
•  The conference was fantastic! I was very impressed. I think that a student affairs conference should be held at Binghamton at least every 3 years.

The World Cafe session was great too, because we were able to discuss the core concepts of the conference and share ideas of ways each other’s college campus can put them into practice. Excellent!
