Former soccer standout Keegan excelling in pro ranks

When Jake Keegan arrived at the Binghamton men’s soccer preseason back in August 2009, he had his doubts as to whether he could make the transition to the college level. Despite a standout career at John Jay High School, Keegan was in awe of his new surroundings.

“That was one of the few times in my life that I doubted myself,” Keegan said. “The team had a lot of success and there were seniors such as Liam Carson, Kyle Kucharski and Jason Stenta (all of whom were all-conference players). I wondered if I could fit in and make it.”

Keegan answered those questions quickly. He scored a team-high seven goals as a freshman and was named second-team all-conference. Three years later, he was named first-team all-conference and third-team all-region. By the time his Binghamton career was done, he scored 28 goals and was one of the top goal scorers in program history.
