Douglas Holmes promoted to distinguished rank

The SUNY Board of Trustees recently approved the appointment of Douglas Holmes as distinguished professor of anthropology. Holmes, who studies European integration and Europeanization, and central banking, has been called a trailblazer who enriches the scholarship of these domains that are so crucial to our future. The rank is the highest conferred upon SUNY faculty, and Holmes joins the more than 80 Binghamton University faculty who have achieved distinguished status.

“Douglas Holmes has pioneered the anthropology of finance and markets through original and highly specialized research into the workings of central banks,” President Harvey Stenger said. “His research pushes scholarship in new directions, intrigues scholars across disciplines and has the ability to affect policy at many levels.”

“Doug is a prolific scholar who has dared to delve into complex research that he presents in thoughtful and intellectually challenging ways,” Provost Donald Nieman said. “His elevation to distinguished professor recognizes his contributions to not only anthropology, but across fields of study that touch on today’s critical, global issues.”
