Bullet changes student’s trajectory

The summer before his sophomore year of high school, while in his South Bronx neighborhood, George Nunez was shot.

Luckily, the bullet only grazed his leg.

“After that experience, I thought to myself, ‘I need to change my outlook on life and start focusing on school,’” says Nunez, a senior finance major in the School of Management.

Nunez was in the wrong place at the wrong time. “Growing up, violence was pervasive. I surrounded myself with people who I thought I could trust, but who were actually just bad mentors.”

Now he understands the difference between good and bad mentors.
