Binghamton lands proven winner, hires Dempsey as men’s basketball coach

Binghamton University has hired Tommy Dempsey as its new head men’s basketball coach to replace Mark Macon. Dempsey was introduced at a press conference May 25, in the Events Center’s TAU Bearcat Room. The 38-year-old Scranton, Pa., native comes directly from Rider University (N.J.), where he served as head coach for the past seven seasons.

Ten-year veteran Dernlan selected as head wrestling coach

Matt Dernlan, a 10-year coaching veteran with a strong pedigree and recruiting ties, has been named Binghamton’s new head wrestling coach, replacing Pat Popolizio, who accepted a position as head coach at North Carolina State.

Kalina tabbed as senior associate AD

Binghamton University has hired 17-year veteran Dennis Kalina as its senior associate athletics director. Kalina comes directly from Gonzaga University in Spokane, where he served as associate athletics director for external operations.

Associate AD Ed Scott appointed to NCAA Baseball Selection Committee

Ed Scott, associate director of athletics for student services, has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Baseball Selection Committee — the first Binghamton University Athletics Department member to be named in any sport.
