Convocation

Convocation for freshmen was held in the Events Center on Aug. 30.

Convocation

For the first time, Convocation was held in the Events Center and it was a rousing success.  A total of 3,200 students marched in by residential hall, with off-campus students entering as a group as well. Vice President Brian Rose, the charismatic comedian, entertained students as he introduced all of the deans and vice presidents — who stayed after the remarks to serve students their picnic dinner. Ravi Gupta ’05, recipient of the University Medal at Fall 2011 Commencement, spoke to the students, who also enjoyed watching a video of move-in day, showing them moving into their rooms, signing the alumni banner, picking up their Class of 2016 shirts and other highlights of the day. Following Convocation, 350 students stayed to watch a movie, another 950 hopped on buses to attend the event at Target and 1,300 participated in one or more of the 65 events hosted in residential communities.
