As the fall 2012 semester opened, students, faculty and staff were able to enjoy several newly renovated facilities. Several projects were completed over the summer, including and a number of them are continuing:

The improvements to the Chenango Room featured a complete renovation of the Chenango Room’s dining, private conference and kitchen areas along with the addition of an Einstein Bros. Bagels restaurant.

Lecture Hall North Concourse and Lecture Hall 7 renovation

With the completion of the north concourse project, the entire Lecture Hall concourse now features new ceilings, lighting, flooring, wall treatments and windows. The four Lecture Hall concourse quadrants embrace the theme of sustainability and reflect the four seasons. In addition, Lecture Hall 7 was given a complete overhaul with new flooring, ceiling, lighting and audio visual equipment.

University Downtown Center

A year after the September 2011 flood destroyed the UDC’s mechanical systems, the facility was reopened with all damaged equipment replaced, some areas redesigned and key equipment on higher ground in the event of future flooding. The campus, several state agencies and contractors worked closely together to complete the project.

Athletic Field Upgrades

Work was completed on several sports venues and students now have excellent, updated facilities for practice and competition. The scope of work included 12 tennis courts, six handball courts and two basketball courts; a new varsity baseball field with new dugouts, bleachers and press box; a women’s varsity softball field on the west fields; and replacement of the tennis courts on the east side of campus.

Central Campus Quad/Harpur Quad

The outdoor space between the Library Tower, Fine Arts and Science 1 has been transformed with a new infinity fountain, landscaping, seating and lighting. Critical maintenance to replace a water line under the area was also part of the project.

In addition to the recently completed work, construction began on some new projects that will transform some of our older buildings:

University Union Renovations

Construction began in the summer to renovate the north portion of the University Union (the south portion underwent renovation three years ago). The renovated space will house key student services including the Career Development Center, the Center for Civic Engagement, the Tutoring Center, the Educational Opportunity Program and TRIO.

The food service areas are also being renovated to add space and to create an open, marketplace-type venue with a variety of food options. A 5,500 square-foot addition is part of the scope of work.

Dickinson Dining Hall

The former Dickinson Dining Hall is currently under construction to create a space for consolidation of a number of student services. When complete, this renovated building will house offices for student accounts, the registrar, financial aid and admissions. It is scheduled to open in spring 2014.
