In a division as large as the Division of Academic Affairs, a lot happens each quarter. In the past three months, grants have been awarded, promotions have occurred, students have been recognized with prestigious scholarships and our faculty have been featured extensively in major publications. Binghamton closed the books on another year of research activity as the fiscal year concluded. Committed funds, considered a leading indicator of research activity, rose about 17 percent to $43.47 million in 2015-16. Campus researchers filed 34 new technology disclosures last year — a new record. Bahgat Sammakia, vice president for research, says the division’s goal remains $50 million in expenditures and committed funds by 2020.
By all accounts, the University's first-ever Sunday Move-in Day was a success, even with the rain. The Division of Student Affairs coordinated more than 100 individual activities during Welcome Week to help new and returning students settle into campus. Though there are no competitions over the summer, the Department of Athletics remains very active, preparing schedules and hiring new staff and coaches as needed.
