In this quarter’s report, you will read about the division’s ambitious goals for the future, a few of its active and successful faculty and students, and some of the reasons we can be proud of our contributions to Binghamton University.
MOVING AT TOP SPEED
Slowing down is not an option for the Division of External Affairs, even in the dead of winter. Whether it’s hosting Winter Madness, re-launching alumni chapters, strategizing with the Foundation Board or improving Binghamton University’s Web presence, everyone in the division was working at full speed.
SUCCESS IS CONTAGIOUS
A new Binghamton University study has found that academic success is infectious. News of this finding by faculty researcher Hiroki Sayama and some high school-aged collaborators has spread around the world. This spring, the University hopes to spread something a little different: Excitement about research. Binghamton Research Days will be celebrated in April, with a national speaker, laboratory tours and student poster sessions headlining the lineup.

Cool Connections, Hot Alumni series received accolades
This innovative monthly speaker series was recently awarded a bronze ranking in the 2012 Case Accolades District II Best Practices in Alumni Relations category by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education and uses the power of technology to expose students to successful alumni in a variety of fields. Via videoconference, alumni speak to students about their current jobs, career path and experiences while students at Binghamton, and how students should prepare for entry into the job market. This fall, students were able to connect with David Wong ‘95, director of engineering at Fisher Price; D. Chris Honsberger ‘91, director of Global Procurement for Starbucks; and Albert ‘Skip” Rizzo, PhD ‘91, associate director for Medical Virtual Reality for the USC Institute for Creative Technologies and research professor for USC Davis School of Gerontology and USC Keck School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
