Directory of LGBTQ-inclusive Services

The Lesbian and Gay Family Building Project facilitates and maintains the Directory of LGBTQ-Inclusive Services. Created in 2000, the directory is designed to assist LGBTQ people in upstate New York in finding health and human service providers who will help them build and strengthen their families.

In this directory, you'll find adoption providers, lawyers, medical professionals, community resources and more. Each of the organizations and providers listed here is either explicitly LGBTQ-affirming or has agreed to the terms of use that state, "listing in the directory makes a statement to LGBTQ individuals and couples that they deserve and can expect caring and sensitive service from my/our organization." Obviously, however, we cannot guarantee that consumers will be satisfied with their experience with a given provider. Nor can we state that the directory is a complete list of LGBTQ-affirming practices.

If the information you seek isn't here, contact us and we'll help match you with professionals near you who can suit your specific needs. We plan to continually update and expand the Directory of LGBTQ-inclusive Services and for that, we need your help. We welcome additional referrals and provider listings, feedback on your experiences with the providers listed here and reader suggestions on how to improve this resource.

Adding a listing

If you are a provider and would like to add a listing, or would like to refer a provider whom you think should be listed here, fill out and complete our Listing form or Referral form and return the completed item to the staff of The Lesbian and Gay Family Building Project.

Navigating the directory

The directory has several categories. You can scroll through the directory in its entirety to see what services are available, or you can navigate to one specific type of listing. To jump to any category directly, just select an option from the list below:

Adoptions From The Heart

30 Hampstead Circle Wynnewood, PA 19096
+1 610-642-7200
Offers domestic adoption, surrogacy in India, home studies, education classes and help with second parent adoptions. Our domestic adoption program is open to couples and singles and with open domestic adoption, birth parents choose the adoptive parent(s) by looking at profiles and videos. AFTH's Heartbeats Assisted Reproduction Program has partnered with Surrogacy Abroad to offer gestational surrogacy in India. This program makes it possible for intended parents who are unable to carry a child, to have a child that is biologically related to them. While maintaining the high quality of medical care, surrogacy in India is considerably less expensive that surrogacy in the U.S. and allows both intended parents of LGBT couples to be listed on the child's birth certificate. AFTH is proud to be one of the only two adoption agencies to have received the Human Relations Committee's Seal for supporting our LGBT families. For more information on our services, visit our website.

National Center for Child Welfare Excellence (NCCWE) takes a broad child welfare perspective, embracing an interest in policies and practices that promote the well-being, safety and permanency of all children and youth while devoting special attention to those facing significant challenges in their environments. Our perspective also encompasses their families and their communities, recognizing that we cannot improve circumstances for children and youth without engaging families and these key systems of care. The community context in which children and youth live influences their well-being, safety and permanency in important ways. We are interested as much in preventing problems as in ameliorating them, and this broad perspective affords us the opportunity to address them in the areas of education/training; technical assistance; research/evaluation; and spotlighting best practices.

Pacific Reproductive Services is lesbian-owned and was founded in 1984 specifically to serve the lesbian community. We provide the country's largest selection of donors "willing to be known" and meet a child at least once, should the child request it, after he or she reaches 18. This large selection of such donors, who are more challenging to recruit than those who wish to remain anonymous, reflects our commitment to the special needs of lesbian families. We are a sperm bank that provides nationwide shipping and also offers insemination services at our offices in San Francisco and Pasadena, California. We are a leader in donor testing and screening and also perform more extensive genetic testing than any other U.S. sperm bank. Lastly, in addition to surpassing FDA regulations, our accreditations include licensures in the two states with the most rigorous standards (New York and California).

Adoptions From The Heart

30-31 Hampstead Circle Wynnewood, PA 19096

My approach with my clients is collaborative, interactive, and respectful. I am an eclectic therapist because trauma affects each individual differently. I view the client as the expert on his/her journey and myself as a consultant or guide. I focus on releasing the shame and pain of the trauma/abuse using tools and approaches with which the client is most comfortable. Together we create as safe a space as possible so that this work may occur. I am a strong believer in skill building, empowerment and visibility as antidotes to shame, secrecy and victimization. I am a therapist who has worked with survivors of trauma within and outside the LGBTQ Community for 30 years. Since symptoms always arise in a context, I find it helpful to explore individual histories using a family systems approach. I view symptoms as adaptations to trauma and am not confined by diagnostic labels. I work with men and women who have experienced traumatic life events from sexual assault to combat trauma to the death of loved ones to living with chronic illness. I use traditional talk therapy, EMDR, and bodywork in whatever configuration is agreed upon. Choice equals empowerment for most survivors.

In my psychotherapy practice, I employ a multi-faceted approach to assisting clients find what they are seeking. I enjoy working with those facing life changes and self-concept challenges, helping them to shift their perspective, heal old wounds and find their divine center. I work from an assumption of strength, guiding and empowering clients to find the answers within, in a warm and welcoming, safe and nurturing environment. Yoga means, literally, "to yoke" or union. It is the physical, mental and spiritual practice originating in ancient India striving to attain a state of peace of mind in order to experience one's true self. My yoga classes are designed to mindfulness, awareness and physical strength, as well. I have been integrating yogic philosophy into my therapy approach to help clients connect with all that is positive and beautiful within themselves, to heal, to grow, and to lead a whole and balanced life.

Picture yourself in a beautiful forest on the shores of a private lake that is so clean and clear it's possible to see the sunbeams shining on the bottom. This is Camp Little Notch. A summer home where campers can experience fun and friendships, challenges and adventures; the chance to practice living in harmony with nature, each other, and themselves. Within five minutes of arriving, campers have half a dozen new friends who just might become their friends for life. There are so many things to do at Camp Little Notch—swimming, canoeing, cookouts, stargazing, yoga, singing, drumming, creekwalking...the list goes on. Our rustic setting plays an important part in making the Camp Little Notch experience so unique. Sleeping in a platform tent, watching the sun come up over the mountains, listening to the sounds of the forest at night all combine to make an unforgettable summer experience. And there's so much more.
