Broome County Legislative Internship Program

Broome County also offers a specific Legislative Internship Program to students throughout the spring, summer, fall and winter. Interns with the Broome County Legislature have the opportunity to conduct research, act as a communicator between the Legislature and the other branches of the government, prepare and present data and reports to the Legislative Assistant or Clerk, assist with the drafting of press releases and Legislative Proclamations, and more. Intern with the New York State Assembly:

The New York State Assembly Intern Committee sponsors the Graduate Internship at the State Capital starting every January. The Graduate Internship provides full-time research or policy analysis positions with Assembly leaders, committees and research staffs. Graduate Scholars are required to attend Issue Policy Forums and the course provided by the Faculty Advisor or Professors-in-Residence. Graduate Scholars have the opportunity to develop their understanding of the legislative process and New York State government and to apply their ideas and research skills in the legislative process. State of New York Executive Chamber Internship Program:

The Executive Chamber Internship Program offers an outstanding opportunity for motivated college juniors, seniors, new (or recent) graduates and graduate students to gain real world government experience working closely with the Governor's staff. Interns work from 10 to 13 weeks, and may be placed in the Appointments Office, Intergovernmental Affairs, Legislative Affairs, Press Office, Scheduling Office, Office of the Secretary to the Governor, State Operations, Special Projects, as well as offices focusing on economic development, education, energy, the environment, health, and homeland security. Positions available in NYC and Albany. Intern responsibilities will range from administrative work to substantive research.

The CDC South is located in LSG 500, below the Glenn G. Bartle Library on the main campus. Among its reference resources is a shelf labeled "Internships." Relevant materials on this shelf include the following:

  • A "Graduate Student Internships" binder inclusive of many types of internships that coincide with MPA Internship requirements
  • "The Internship Series: Washington Internships in Law & Policy" This resource is a 2007 publication from the Career Education Institute that compiles internship listings from a variety of policy centers, national coalitions, research groups, and nonprofits in Washington, D.C. Examples include the Center for Education Reform, the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy, the National Assembly of Health and Human Services, and Amnesty International U.S.A.
