Welcome Back Weekend Fall 2013
Welcome to Binghamton University and Hinman College!
Move-In is Thursday, August 22nd at 9:00am.
The university has planned a fun-filled weekend packed with events so that new and returning students can get out into the campus and surrounding community to meet people, win prizes, and get involved!
Please visit the New Student Programs website for a full list of university planned events. Below you will find important university events as well as events specifically held in Hinman College!
Thursday, August 22
9:00am Halls Open!
3:00-4:00pm A Parent/Guardian Primer on Life (Hinman Commons)
Parents and guardians of first year Hinman College residents are invited to let their student finish unpacking and begin getting to know their roommate, while you join us to find out a bit more about your student's living experience in Hinman. This will include ways you can help your student be successful in the adjustment to living on campus and an opportunity to meet the staff: the Assistant Director for Hinman College; the Faculty Master; the three Resident Directors and two Assistant Resident Coordinators, professional administrators who live in an apartment in the hall; and our office secretarial staff, all of whom will work with and help your student develop and gain the most from their on campus experience throughout the year.
3:00-4:00pm Floor meetings (Floor Lounges)*
Floor meetings are led by your Resident Assistant and are mandatory. Get to know the other new students on your floor and discuss policies.
4:00-5:00pm Building-wide meetings (Main Lounges)*
Led by the Professional Staff, building-wide meetings are a great chance to learn more about the Resident Assistant staff, thank your Welcome Back Crew and meet your hall ResCon (Residential Consultant for computer assistance).
5:00-5:30pm Welcome to Hinman (Hinman Hill)*
Join us on the hill, between Roosevelt and Smith Halls, for the traditional big welcome! Here's your first chance to meet your community leaders: the Assistant Director, Faculty Master, Resident Directors, Assistant Resident Coordinators and Hinman College Council Executive Board.
5:30pm Start heading to New Student Convocation
6:00-8:00pm New Student Convocation & Picnic (Events Center)
10:00pm Movies in Mountainview and Newing (Co-Rec Fields)
* Hinman, Building, and Floor meetings are mandatory for all students
Friday, August 23
11:00-Noon Hinman Transfer Student Social(Hinman Success Center)
Join us for a bagel brunch and get to know Hinman from a transfer student's perspective! Meet Hinman staff members and other transfer students.
1:00-5:00pm Healthy BU CPR Training (University Union-Old Union Hall)
Stop by anytime to get a quick training in CPR! This event will also be held on Saturday during this same time.
2:00-4:00pm All-University Transfer Student Social (CIW Commons)
All new transfer students, Binghamton Advantage Program participants, as well as new students involved with Student Support Services are invited to meet other new students! This is a great way to make connects on campus while enjoying light refreshment!
4:00-5:00pm Volley-Bonanza! (Top of the Hill behind Roosevelt & Smith)
The fun keeps going! Hinman College Council will be putting together a pick-up volleyball match at the top of the hill. Come on up and meet fellow Hinmanites!
5:00-7:00pm Hinman BBQ and Involvement Fair (Hinman Quad)
The party begins! Come to this block-party style event featuring food, games and an opportunity to meet the local student run groups and buy Hinman apparel from the Hinman College Council!
9:00-2:00am LateNite Binghamton (University Union)
Come out for various FREE activities and giveaways!
Saturday, August 24
12:00-8:00pm University Fest (University "Spine")
Come celebrate the beginning of the academic year with the whole campus community! There will be student organizations tabling, vendors galore, music, food and water rides from 1-4pm. Make sure to stick around for the Shindig at the Fountain from 5-8pm featuring more food, rides, and a concert brought to you by the Student Association.
8:00-10:00pm Under the Boardwalk (Hinman Quad)
Come out and meet people at the Under the Boardwalk Hinman block party! Challenge your floormates to trivia, dance, games and much more!
9:00-2:00am LateNite Binghamton (University Union)
Check out 9-hole glow golf, laser tag, video gaming and more!
Sunday, August 25
12:00-5:00pm Rec Fest (Recreation Center at the East Gym)
Enjoy tours, giveaways, free food and chair massages! Learn about club sorts, take a group fitness class, or go kayaking in the pool!
2:00-4:00pm Tour of Hinman College & Campus (Hinman Patio)
Our Welcome Back Crew leads a tour of Hinman College and Campus. See your mailbox, the Hinman Success Center, and the Hinman College Office. Best yet, each tour is personalized to show you where your classes are located, so make sure you bring your schedule! Tours leave at 2, 2:15, 2:30 and 3pm.
3:00-5:00pm Co-Rec 101 (Co-Rec Field behind Roosevelt Hall)
Co-Rec football, founded in here in Hinman, is one of our biggest traditions. Join seasoned Co-Rec players in a quick intro and pick-up game for touch-football where the quarterbacks are female!
7:00pm Floor Meetings (Floor Lounges)
RAs will lead these meetings. The purpose of this floor meeting is to join both new and returning students together to establish floor policies and to get to know each other.
7:30pm Ice Cream Socials (Main Lounges)
Directly following floor meetings there will be an ice cream social in the mail lobby of each building. Faculty Fellows and Student Fellows will be available to answer any questions you may have.
