Academic Initiatives

Throughout the academic year, the Mountainview Staff holds various academic and social events aimed at providing students with the tools they need to succeed in their college careers.  Some of these initiatives are outlined here.

Area-Based Writting 111 Course

First-Year Students:  Need a writing class? Want to learn more about the 2012 Election? Want to take a class with first-year students from your community?

WRIT 111: Coming to Voice in the Wake of the 2012 Election

Students in these Area-Based sections will become stronger writers, speakers, and critical thinkers through engaging in discussions, activities, and assignments that explore the issues and candidates that define the 2012 Election.

Beyond giving students the unique opportunity to take a course with students from their residential communities, WRIT 111 fulfills a Joint (J) General Education requirement in Composition (C) and Oral Communication (O).

For more information about enrolling in these sections, contact Kevin Wright, Faculty Master at wright@binghamton.edu or  the Associate Director of First-Year Writing, Dr. Kristi Costello at costello@binghamton.edu.

Mountainiview will be offering a fall 2012 Area-Based Writing 111 sections, so please sign-up today!

Area-Based Courses in Mountainview

Each semester several courses and discussion sections are offered to residents of Mountainview College.  Typically, these are lower-level, general education classes and are taught in the two classrooms located in the Appalachian Building.   The courses provide residents with the opportunity to be part of a small class where they come together other residents to pursue their studies.
