Residency Requirements and Eligibility

Housing Assignments

Students will be notified of their residence hall assignment in early summer. Housing is only available for undergraduate students.

Freshmen

Residence Hall check-in

All students in the first-year class of the University, regardless of credit hours earned, are required to live in University housing for their first academic year unless permission to live off campus is received from the Office of Residential Life. Freshmen, however, are not allowed to live in the apartment communities. Local freshmen from Broome or Tioga counties may either live on campus or commute from home. We do not have separate freshman housing because we believe that the diversity of students enhances the residential experience for everyone.

Transfer Students

Binghamton University welcomes our transfer students and we make every effort to house those who wish to reside on campus.

Graduate Students

Due to the high demand for undergraduate housing, Binghamton University is not able to offer on-campus housing to graduate students. We encourage new graduate students to use the resources of the Off Campus College office (http://occ.binghamton.edu.new.htm) for assistance in finding a suitable living arrangement off campus. OCC offers a listing of available apartments in the community, a listing of current Binghamton University students looking for roommates, lease review, and other services. Graduate Students may also wish to consider University Plaza as an option.

International

Students from around the world live together on campus, and every effort is made to make everyone feel welcome. Additionally, the International Student and Scholar Services office is dedicated to assisting international students. Their staff can provide students with sound advice and friendly suggestions to help them settle into the campus community.

On-campus housing during break periods is only available to residents of Delaware Hall in Newing College, Windham Hall in Mountainview College and Mohawk Hall in College-in-the-Woods and Lehman Hall in Hinman College, and the apartment communities (Susquehanna and Hillside).
