Binghamton Residential Life provides staff with a number of professional development opportunities to ensure staff are successful in their respective positions. Below you will find some general opportunities that are provided ACD/ARC, CD/RD, and AD, staff members. Please select the link to find opportunities for specific positions:
The Assistant Community Director, Assistant Resident Coordinators, Resident Directors, Community Directors, and New Assistant Directors participate in a comprehensive training program prior to fall opening. Additionally, staff receive on-going training throughout the academic year.
All Resident Directors and Community Directors participate in a professional development opportunity which allows staff to gain additional experience, further develop skill-sets, and create or enhance bridges to other departments within the University.
Assistant Directors are encouraged to continue their growth and development of their professional skill set.
Each Assistant Community Director, Assistant Resident Coordinator, Resident Director and Community Director serves on a departmental committee. Returning staff members may have the opportunity to serve as co-chair of their committee.
Assistant Directors serve as mentors to departmental committees and as Residential Life representatives on University committees.
Once RDs and CDs have acclimated to the department and University, they may consider some additional opportunities such as instructing a 2-credit First-Year or Senior-Year Experience course or serving as a student conduct hearing board chair.
