Professional Benefits for AD, CD, RD

Dental/Health/Vision Coverage

Resident Directors, Community Directors and Assistant Directors can choose between the Empire Plan and a variety of HMOs for Health Insurance/Prescription coverage. Comprehensive dental and vision plans are also available. Domestic partners and dependents are covered by benefits packages.

Domestic Partners

Resident Directors and Community Directors may live with one adult and any dependents.  Domestic Partners may cover same or opposite sex partners with whom they reside and have a committed, long term relationship of mutual support, and for whom they have assumed long term financial responsibility or have mutual financial responsibility.

Housing

Resident Directors and Community Directors receive a furnished 1-2 bedroom apartment with laundry facilities, cable, local and long-distance phone, and high-speed internet included.  The only pets allowed on campus are fish in tanks up to 20 gallons.

Leave

First year Resident Directors, Community Directors and Assistant Directors accrue 1.25 vacation and sick days each month.  Additionally, they are eligible for up to 12 holidays each year.  Accrual rates increase with years of service.

Meal Plan

Assistant Resident Coordinators, Assistant Community Directors, Resident Directors and Community Director are provided a meal plan during the academic year.

Parking

Resident Directors and Community Directors are allocated one parking space.  If they should have more than one vehicle, they would have to park the second one in general parking. Staff are responsible for the cost to obtain a campus parking permit at a discounted rate from UUP.

Retirement Options

Resident Directors, Community Directors and Assistant Directors can choose amongst New York State Teachers' Retirement System, Employees Retirement System, ING, MetLife, TIAA-CREF or VALIC.

Tuition Assistance

We ask that new Resident Directors, Community Directors and Assistant Directors do not take classes during their first semester so they can become acclimated to the University and their position. Our union, United University Professions, offers a space available program which covers tuition for one classroom-based course (i.e. not an independent study) during each semester taken at a SUNY operated campus.  Partial assistance for an additional course can be secured through the Tuition Waiver program (based on funding).

Union Membership

All Resident Directors, Community Directors and Assistant Directors automatically gain membership in a professional union, United University Professionals.

Housing & Meal Plan

The ARC/ACD position offers a board plan and a furnished 2-bedroom apartment for the academic year (includes free laundry facilities, free cable, free local and long-distance phone and free high-speed internet) at a value of more than $10,000. The only pets allowed on campus are fish in tanks up to 20 gallons.

Remuneration

Assistant Residential Coordinators and Assistant Community Directors will be paid an hourly rate for 10 hours/week up to $2,750 for the 14-15 academic year. An average of twenty-five hours of work per week is expected. Tuition scholarships may be available.

Live-In Staff Apartments

Each of our Assistant Residential Coordinators, Resident Directors and Community Directors are provided a furnished apartment in the hall they supervise. Assistant Community Directors are provided a room in a furnished apartment. It is our expectation that live-in staff members are visible and accessible to residents and staff during non-traditional work hours. While balance is encouraged within the department, the spirit of the live-in requirement should be expected in the role.

Though amenities vary by apartment, staff can expect one-bedroom, one-bathroom, living room and kitchen. Furniture also varies, but minimally includes a queen-size bed, dresser, couch, and entertainment stand.
