Placement Guides

Students with any background in Spanish, French or Italian who are interested in taking a course in these subjects are encouraged to consult with a departmental advisor before enrolling in any language, literature or culture course. Here are some general guidelines to help choose the appropriate course for you.

Education/Experience - Level of Course Registration

No experience or 1 year high school - 111

1-2 years high school - 115

2-3 years high school - 211

3 or more years high school - 215

AP credit or prior college credit - Consult with departmental advisors

NOTE: Bilingual/Heritage students who learned Spanish while growing up at home cannot take SPAN111, 115, 211, 215, or 250.
