About The Class

Becoming a business owner 101, is presented as a cooperative effort by Alternatives Federal Credit Union (Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce (TCCC), and the Small Business Development Center of New York (SBDC). The course will cover typical requirements and challenges of starting a business ranging from product and service development to business planning and financing. Additional topics discussed are human resources, business structure, regulatory and legal issues and lifestyle impacts. Each participant will complete a personal skills assessment, and develop an action plan.


Registration Fee ($105) Includes

* Two full days of class room instruction:               June 1st  & 8th 9:00 am - 3:30 pm

(Lunch will be provided and a vegetarian option is available)

* Lifestyle Impacts Module                                         June 15th 9:30 am – 11:00 am

* Going out of Business Module                                June 15th 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

* One-on-One Advisor Counseling

Consists of: Two one hour personal advisory sessions for Action Plan Development

Session One:  Strengths Matrix Assessment

Session Two:  Action Plan Outline Development 

Course Completion Certificate

In order to receive a course completion certificate with your total number of classroom training hours you must attend all mandatory sessions above AND choose the appropriate modules below as applicable to your business.

* Manufacturing Module (manufacturing only) June 15th 1:00 – 2:30    $30

* Partnership Module (partnerships only) June 15th 2:30 – 4:00            $30
