About SEFA

What is SEFA?

SEFA is the State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA) — a charitable solicitation of New York state employees conducted under the authority of State Finance Law § 201-1. State employees may give to any of the charitable organizations that participate in SEFA and may at any time revoke or modify a contribution made through payroll deduction by providing a written request to the employee's payroll office.

A letter from President Harvey Stenger

October 2014

Dear University Community,

The State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA) allows state employees to support agencies in our community, providing assistance in ways that make a difference to people in need – and people you know. I find it gratifying that Binghamton University faculty and staff have stepped up and provided support in past years for our annual campaign and I'm asking for your support again this year, as the need for services supported by SEFA increases.

As we grow at Binghamton University, and help the region to overcome difficult economic conditions, we reach out to you for assistance once more to help those who are less fortunate. Your monetary support is critical to community service agencies that provide programs and relief to those in need.

This year's theme is, "Giving is Golden." I encourage you to consider a contribution, whether great or small.

You can choose to designate a specific agency to receive your contribution — enabling you to make a donation to a local organization so your gift remains in the community — or you can make a general contribution to be distributed among all participating agencies.

For this year's campaign, we are rolling out on-line pledging for the first time! The system provides an easy way to look up charities and designate your gift – either by payroll deduction or, if you prefer, to pay by check. In light of this, we will not be sending out paper pledge forms and the charities brochures to most employees – you can easily find them at the pledging link https://www.giveattheoffice.org/_nyssefa.
If you prefer to receive a paper packet, simply email Martha Gahring at gahring@binghamton.edu and she will send one to you. More information regarding our campaign can be found at http://binghamton.edu/sefa/.

Last year, we surpassed our campus goal thanks to the many University faculty and staff who generously contributed. I am confident that, with your help, we will be able to achieve and surpass our 2014 goal of $60,000 by December 1.

When we work together, we can make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate in our community. Please give generously to this worthy cause.

Thank you,

Harvey Stenger
President
