SEFA: State Employees Federated Appeal

The 2013 SEFA campaign goes over the top!

The campus goal to raise $60,000 for participating SEFA charities by Dec. 31, was met on Dec. 12, 2013 -- the earliest the campus has ever surpassed its goal.

Harvey Stenger posts 100% strip on SEFA sign

Binghamton University President Harvey Stenger places the final red strip on the SEFA thermometer at the entrance to campus, showing the campus has surpassed its campaign goal.

What is SEFA?

SEFA is the State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA) — a charitable solicitation of New York state employees conducted under the authority of State Finance Law § 201-1. State employees may give to any of the charitable organizations that participate in SEFA and may at any time revoke or modify a contribution made through payroll deduction by providing a written request to the employee's payroll office.

November 2013

Dear University Community,

Our annual State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA) is at the halfway mark and I want to remind you that every donation, no matter its size, will have a positive impact on our community and help those who are less fortunate.

I encourage you to refer to the list of agencies included with your pledge information and consider a contribution, perhaps to an organization that can provide direct services to members of our campus community or to people you personally know.

Each person who contributes $78 or more to the campaign by Dec. 1 — just $3 a paycheck — will be eligible for a drawing of gift certificates valued at $50, donated by the University.

It's easy to donate to the SEFA campaign. Contributions may be made by check or through payroll deduction. For more information, or if you need another set of SEFA forms, please contact Martha Gahring at

With your help, I am confident that we will surpass our $60,000 goal by Dec. 1. I appreciate your help and support in making a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. Please give generously to this worthy cause.

Thank you,
Harvey Stenger

Thank you,

Harvey Stenger
