Blackboard 9.1 FAQ for Binghamton University Faculty
How do I log into Blackboard?
Open a web browser and type in the Binghamton University’s Blackboard address: http://blackboard.binghamton.edu.
Your initial Username will be the part of your Binghamton University E-mail address before the “@” sign. e.g. jdoe1@Binghamton.edu username would be jdoe1 (all lowercase). Your password is your PODs password. Passwords are case sensitive as well. If you do not know your Binghamton University e-mail, bring your University ID to the Help Desk in the Computer Center and they will give you your e-mail address. How are students enrolled in Blackboard?
Your class enrollments happen automatically through registrations from the registrar’s office. If you have a new student you would like to enroll, you can do this from the Control Panel.
Control Panel - User and Groups - Users -Enroll User Browse…if you do not know their username - Place a check mark next to the student’s name that you wish to enroll -Click Submit-Click Submit on the Add Enrollment Page How do I handle students who drop the course?
Your students will not be automatically dropped from your class list. However, you can remove them from your list through the Control Panel.
Control Panel - User and Groups - Users - Search for the student on the User page Place a check mark next to the user and click the blue Remove user from Course button.
*NOTE: Doing this will remove the user and all subsequent data for this student. Can I customize the ‘My Courses’ Module?
In the upper right hand corner of the My Courses module there is a gear icon. Click on that icon to display the courses that show in your menu. Uncheck any course that you do not want to show in your ‘My Courses’ schedule. What if my course does not display in the ‘My Courses’ Module?
If a course you are teaching does not appear under the “Courses You are Teaching” section of the “My Courses” module, you may not be listed as the instructor of record for the course. Please have your department take the appropriate steps to give you this designation. What types of documents can be posted to my Blackboard course?
Instructors can post Word (.doc), Excel (.xls), PowerPoint (.ppt), PDF files, images, audio, and video files. What are some of the features I can use in my Blackboard course?
Blackboard will allow the instructors to post files and link to other websites, but it also has many powerful tools. These include:
• Virtual Classroom
• Discussion Board
• Grade Center
• Assignment Manager
• Test and Survey Manager

Yes, instructors can find information on Blackboard at the University Center for training & Developments website: http://training.binghamton.edu . How can I see my course roster?
A list of all the students enrolled in your course is now available by clicking “Users” in the Control Panel. How long will my course stay on the Blackboard server?
Courses are kept on the Blackboard server for a period of 18 months from the last day of class. St that time they are deleted from the system and can no longer be accessed. It is recommended that all instructors archive their courses at the end of each semester. How do I archive my course?

Blackboard™ Learn Release 9.1 (9.1.407.2) is tested with a variety of technologies.
Certified: fully tested and supported.
Compatible: partially tested but should function properly.
Provisional: future technologies considered supported by Blackboard Support.
Unsupported: either impossible or not tested. Can I copy content from one course to another?
Yes, instructors have access to copy Blackboard course materials from a current course to a new course. The instructor must be listed as the instructor in both courses to use this utility.
On the Control Panel select “Packages and Utilities”, then click on Course Copy. Designate the source and destination course and click Submit. You will then be prompted to specify what content areas and settings you would like copied. Click Submit.
An email will be sent to the instructor when the course copy is complete. Why can’t I see the course menu?
In the center of your course page you will see a “<” symbol. Clicking this icon will hide the course menu. Clicking the icon again will display the course menu. Why isn't my independent study course on Blackboard?
Independent study courses are not automatically listed in Blackboard. If you would like your course listed please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and include your course number and section. You will be notified by email when your course has been places on Blackboard. Who can I contact for assistance?
