Harpur College of Arts and Sciences

University Readiness Program

The University Readiness Program (URP) is an innovative collaboration including Binghamton University's liberal arts school, Harpur College of Arts and Sciences, Zhenjiang International School (ZIS) in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province, China, and the Open House Education Foundation. Administered by the Institute for Asia and Asian Diasporas, the URP introduces high school students to American academic culture and provides a head start on university-level course work. Following an introductory week-long visit to the Binghamton University campus, groups of top Zhenjiang students take five online courses taught by BU faculty during their junior and senior years. These high school students are then given the opportunity for early admission to the university, with college credit for the classes they completed. Recently this online collaboration has expanded to include students from Westchester Hebrew High School (WHHS), in Mamaroneck, NY.
