Regional chapter spotlight

Trivia Night

About 65 Binghamton alumni got together on Jan. 23, to test their wits against each other. The Metro New York Chapter participated in Trivia Night at Flatiron Hall in Manhattan, which was hosted by the NYC Trivia League. As is usually the case on a trivia night, the competition was spirited.

"It was no surprise people showed up, even during a Nor'Easter, because there are so many alumni in this area, and trivia really provides the perfect atmosphere to get together with old friends and meet new ones," said George Lourentzatos '12, MS '15. "Because the turnout and feedback for the event were so positive, we're looking to do a trivia night quarterly, and the next one will be May 1, at Flatiron Hall."

Lockhouse Distillery

Lockhouse Distillery is one of the coolest venues in Buffalo, and was the setting for a warm gathering of Binghamton alumni on Jan. 27. The Buffalo Chapter's event attracted about 15 alumni, who enjoyed an exclusive tour of the distillery, followed by some time to mingle over appetizers.

"It was great getting to connect with other alumni," said Natalia Beltre '15. "We all come from different walks of life, but our connection to the University allowed us to find common ground with each other. It was fun getting to know more about how the different experiences everyone had at Binghamton University propelled them forward in life. As a new resident of Buffalo, it was very interesting for me to learn more about the city's progress in the past decade. Many of us agreed that Buffalo has become one of New York's best-kept secrets."

The Florida law firm of Shutts & Bowen LLP proudly hosted Binghamton University’s South Florida alumni in its Miami office on Feb. 9. The alumni were able to reconnect and watch ESPN3 as the Bearcat men’s basketball team hosted Albany. “We were excited to host alumni and friends of the University in our office,” said partner Steve Ebner ’94. “We would like to thank the University for allowing us to host such a great event and we look forward to many more.”

Who says games like pool, foosball, ping-pong and arcade favorites are just for college students? Certainly, we don't! The Metro New York Chapter had an alumni gathering Feb. 9 at Break Bar & Billiards in Astoria, where about 35 Binghamton grads who live in Queens enjoyed games they played back in the day in the basement of the Union.

"Our alumni braved over a foot of snow to come out to a Binghamton event right in our neighborhood," said Rebecca Platsky '12. "It was great to see how many alumni live in the area."
