Save the date for Homecoming

By Steve Seepersaud

Binghamton University is working toward a full reopening this fall. We're excited to announce Homecoming 2021 will be an in-person event on campus. We can't wait to welcome you Friday-Sunday, Oct. 8-10. We've missed seeing alumni at events, and there will be plenty of reasons to celebrate when we're together.

To provide a safe environment for everyone participating, events will be held outdoors as much as possible. Unvaccinated individuals must mask and remain socially distant. COVID-19 guidance is subject to change based on updates provided by New York state.

All alumni and their families are welcome at Homecoming. Our event has more spirit each year, and you'll feel a sense of fun from the moment you arrive on campus.

Here are some of the signature events we're planning:

  • The downtown block party on Friday night is our newest tradition. We'll take over Gorgeous Washington Street with food, friends and music.
  • We're combining our two most well-attended speaking events — the Fireside Chat and TIER Talks — into one event Saturday morning. President Harvey Stenger will provide updates on the latest happenings at the University in his traditional Fireside Chat. Even after a tumultuous year, there is much progress and promise to feel proud of. TIER Talks will immediately follow, featuring alumni who are using social media to make a positive influence.
  • For the first time in nearly five years, we'll hold an awards ceremony on campus. The Bearcats of the Last Decade 10 Under 10 Awards will recognize 10 outstanding recent graduates for their early career success and leadership potential.
  • The Fall Festival on Saturday afternoon will be a remake of the popular tailgate party. It will be more family-friendly, featuring tastes of the local area. If there was an event that would capture the feel of fall in the Southern Tier, this is it.
  • The men's soccer team will be in action Saturday night at the Bearcats Sports Complex, and a brilliant fireworks show over campus will close the day of activities.

Homecoming registration will open soon.  We'll send you an email to let you know. In the meantime, save the date and book a hotel room at a special alumni rate. See more details at the Homecoming website. If you have questions, contact us at alumni@binghamton.edu.
