Kornheiser leads distinguished speakers at Commencement
Tony Kornheiser ’70 found it surprising to be awarded the Doctor of Letters at spring Commencement. “It’s odd because I don’t know that I can go in order with all 22 letters of the alphabet,” the sportswriter, radio host and television personality said to a laughing audience. “That’s a joke. I know there are 24!” The University conferred more than 3,700 degrees for bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral candidates during eight separate Commencement ceremonies, held May 19-21, at the Events Center.
Regional chapter spotlight
Our alumni have been gathering seemingly all over the country to celebrate the start of summer. The Alumni Association's Chicago Chapter (pictured) recently had a meet-up at a downtown rooftop bar, and we have some great events planned for the coming weeks. Summer is always more fun when you spend time with good friends!
Alumnus encourages cancer patients to fight
As an emergency room physician, Kerry Forrestal '86, MBA '92, has told patients who came to him seeking relief from a seemingly unrelated condition that they show signs of cancer. Wanting to change the conversation around cancer and provide better answers to the frequently asked "Now what?" question, Forrestal began writing the book Warrior Stance, its name taken from a phrase he heard from one of his patients who was battling cancer long-term.
Partners needed for new Master of Arts in Applied Liberal Studies
The University seeks employers to host graduate students in full-time internships as a part of a new master's degree program. The Master of Arts in Applied Liberal Studies (MAALS) is a first-of-its-kind program, and will start in the fall. This would be a great opportunity to make an impact on a current student.
New Alumni Association board members and officers
The Alumni Association welcomes three new members who were elected May 6 to its board of directors . A new slate of officers was also recently elected. Meet these engaged alumni volunteers whom you may encounter at a future alumni event.
