Obstacle or opportunity?

By Steve Seepersaud

The dynamic speaker event "Life without Limitation" is one you do not want to miss! Join us from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 11, at Binghamton University's Innovative Technologies Complex for this inspirational talk.

Dan Kosick '00, MSW '06, will discuss his journey from amputee to elite athlete. At age 15, his right leg was amputated after pain in his ankle turned out to be cancer. With his first prosthetic leg, he learned to walk and eventually run. Kosick was on the U.S. Disabled Alpine Ski Team and competed in the 1998 and 2002 Winter Paralympics. He's a high-school social worker, a lacrosse and swim coach, and an avid obstacle-course racer.

George Catalano, professor of biomedical engineering, will explain how he leads students in path-breaking work at Binghamton. His students used 3D printing to produce an artificial limb for a campus employee who lost a hand in an industrial accident. Catalano's students also work with local nonprofit organizations on accessibility projects for people and animals.

This event is free and open to all. Register by Friday, April 5. If you have questions, contact the Office of Alumni Engagement at eventhelp@binghamton.edu or 607-777-2424.
