Fred Hersch Trio

Day Thursday, April 04
Time 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM
Where Anderson Center for the Performing Arts

As a pianist, composer, bandleader, and theatrical conceptualist, Fred Hersch lives up to the praise of the New York Times, who aptly declared him, “singular among the trailblazers of their art, a largely unsung innovator of this borderless, individualistic… jazz for the 21st century.” With three dozen recordings as a leader/co-leader under his belt, Hersch has long defined jazz’s creative edge in a wide variety of settings, from his breathtaking solo recitals and exploratory duos to his extraordinary trios. The Fred Hersch Trio has seen several incarnations since its inception in 1985, but the pianist’s current pairing with bassist John Hébert and drummer Eric McPherson is the longest-running and perhaps most acclaimed. The Trio has toured extensively in Europe, Asia, and the US, and their most recent release, Sunday Night at the Vanguard, was nominated in 2016 for two Grammy Awards, for “Best Jazz Album,” and “Best Improvised Solo.”

This engagement of the Fred Hersch Trio is made possible through the Jazz Touring Network program of Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation with support from the National Endowment for the Arts. Student and staff discounts available. To purchase tickets or for more info, visit http://anderson.binghamton.edu or call 607-777-ARTS.
