Opera Ensemble presents Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas

Considered the first masterpiece of English opera, Henry Purcell’s 1689 opera is based on the story of Dido, queen of Carthage, and Aeneas, the prince of Troy. With scenes of sorcery and spirits and a magnificent final lament, sailors tell the tale of the love and abandonment. Conducted by David Moody (Juilliard School of Performing Arts faculty) and directed by Tommy Iafrate (Binghamton University Department of Theatre faculty).

The first performance will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 29, in the Anderson Center Chamber Hall. The second performance will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 31, in the Anderson Center Chamber Hall.

Tickets for the opera are $15 general public, $10 faculty/staff/seniors/alumni and $5 for students.
