From beautiful nature shots to quirky student events to beloved faculty, University photographer Jonathan Cohen and student assistant Jonathan King document some of the most interesting Binghamton moments in a snapshot. Heavenscape
“I took this photo for my wife. It was special to me because it was posted on the day we got married. I wanted to shoot something special for her.” -- Jonathan Cohen
On the court
“This was the third year I shot the women’s volleyball team in this style. Every year, I try to outdo myself and make it better. This year, I incorporated a volleyball net, with two extra lights on each side to add to the effect.” -- Jonathan Cohen

“I actually took this in October in the early evening. I had waited to take a picture of the moon for a while until I noticed that it was rising in a different location. When the moon rises, you don’t have much time. When I found a location, I decided that incorporating the new Center of Excellence building would be good since it was about to open soon.” -- Jonathan Cohen

“Spring Fling is a perfect time to capture some really nice images for the archives. This group came and just started dancing. It was really great. The energy behind this was amazing, and to be there was just a great moment." -- Jonathan Cohen

"I shot this photo at Spring Commencement. I always look for hats that grab my attention and that are colorful. I thought this one had a good saying to it, and I liked that there were similar hats on each side." -- Jonathan King
Movie under the stars
“This photo was taken towards the end of Freshman Move-In Day. It was a very long day, but I knew there was a movie happening that night, so I wanted to capture the movie under the night sky.” -- Jonathan Cohen

"My idea behind this photo was to make it recognizable. I wanted to capture something you don't normally see in a place that many students are generally familiar with." -- Jonathan King
Downtown Zombie Walk
“While I was shooting, I bumped into a friend participating who actually happened to be an alumna of the University. I wanted to show a downtown event that included a variety of people enjoying the night.” -- Jonathan Cohen

"I’ve taken so many photos of classrooms, that I wanted to offer a different perspective of a classroom shot. The glass panels in the Old Union made it look so pretty.” -- Jonathan Cohen
Finals Rave under the library
"I wanted to show some emotion and how people were moving. I used a slower shutter speed to better capture their movement. Since the rave only lasted 15 minutes, I had much less time than usual." -- Jonathan King
First snowfall of the fall semester
"This was our first snowstorm of the year, and I thought this location would make for a good spot because of the snow on the branches and the untouched path. This spot makes people think. It makes people wonder where it is. Maybe they'll even try to find it." -- Jonathan King
Center of Excellence
"This photo was taken in the summertime, when the building was still under construction. Before I could take this photo, I had to wait until late in the day. This was actually better for me because the light always looks better during sunset.” -- Jonathan Cohen
Court Street's historic district
"I was walking downtown over the summer, and I really wanted to highlight this area. This is a different angle of the courthouse that people don't normally see." -- Jonathan King

"I was in class at the time, and I just happened to look out the window. I noticed a difference in the sky, so I grabbed my camera and ran out of class. As I stayed out there longer, the sky just became brighter and brighter, which made those really unique patterns from the hills and library. I was just in the right place at the right time."
