CCPA? GIM? What's a "nowl," anyway? For all of our new students who need help wrapping their head around unfamiliar terms used around campus, here's a guide to the most common Binghamton Bearcat lingo.
College-in-the-Woods. This residential community has the ideal location on campus. You can stumble out of bed five minutes before your 8:30 a.m. class and still be on time.
Chenango-Champlain Collegiate Center. Arguably the best dining hall on campus. Craving a good bacon, egg and cheese? Need kosher-friendly foods? Look no further than C4.
Appalachian Dining Hall. If you have strong legs and a hearty appetite, hike up the hill to this dining hall in the Mountainview Community.
Resident Assistant/Resident Director. You know them. You love them. Your RA's have probably knocked on your door at 3 a.m. telling you to keep the noise down. They keep the residence halls running smoothly under the direction of the RD's.
Night Owl. If you’re looking for chicken tenders, ice cream or french fries at 3 a.m., this is the place to be! Available in App and C4, late night hours in the dining hall are ideal for those Saturday nights you stay up late studying, right? #PublicIvy
School of Management. Pant suits. Pant suits everywhere. Time is money, so we've nicknamed our business school.
College of Community and Public Affairs. This school offers undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degree programs for students interested in careers related to social justice, social work, education and more.
Human Development. A great major for those looking to work in public policy or social work!
University Downtown Center. The name speaks for itself. This building, located downtown on Washington Street, is the home of most CCPA courses. They even have their own library!
Electronic Mailing List. Don't get enough emails? If you join an organization on campus, they will add you to their “listserv” to send emails about meetings, events,= and other information.
General Interest Meeting. They almost always have free pizza. GIM’s are held in the beginning of each semester to inform potential members about clubs and organizations on campus.
Student Association. If you had a blast at the Fall Concert and Spring Fling, you can thank the SA, our student-governing body on campus.
Off Campus College Transport. Our student-operated bus service runs frequently throughout the day, so you won't be caught chasing the bus down the street if you miss it. And if you're looking to go the mall or downtown, they've got you covered.
University Plaza. Just a short shuttle ride from campus, you'll find yourself drooling in UP as you decide where you want to eat. They've got a Chipotle, Starbucks, Insomnia Cookies, Five Guys Burgers and Fries, Coldstone Creamery and more. Make sure to wear your stretchy pants.
Beach-Lake! Yes, you read that correctly. Nathaniel Cole Park in Harpursville, approximately 20 minutes from campus, is a great spot to soak up some sun. Take advantage of the blake while the warm weather lasts.
Alyssa Mustafa is a junior in the School of Management studying marketing. She spends her free time running around in circles and jumping in the sand as a member of the Women's Track and Field Team.
