10 Awesome Things to Do During Family Weekend

Whether your family is visiting or you’re spending the weekend with friends, Family Weekend is a great way to experience Binghamton. From listening to your favorite a cappella groups to sitting in front of a bonfire, there are many fun things to do throughout the weekend. Family Weekend is taking place October 11-13! Didn’t register yet? No problem! On-site registration will be available at the Family Weekend Welcome Center.
Family Weekend Welcome + Jessica Lahey’s Talk
Get together with fellow Binghamton families at the official Family Weekend kickoff. New York Times bestseller and columnist Jessica Lahey will be there to advise parents on how to prepare their children for success. She will also discuss her book, The Gift of Failure: How the Best Parents Learn to Let Go So Their Children Can Succeed.
Family Fun Bonfire
Picture the subtle autumn breeze contrasting the warmth of a bonfire. All while the sweet taste of s’mores fill your insides with happiness. The Family Fun Bonfire has that and more!
Family Weekend Lunch and Baxter’s Spirit Celebration
Enjoy a picnic-style lunch and student performances at Baxter’s Spirit Celebration. Among the many food options, there will be our famous spiedies, cooked by the famous Lupo family.
Art Museum and Libraries special exhibits
Enjoy a variety of art exhibits taking place across campus. The University Art Museum will feature “not but nothing other: African-Americann Portrayals, 1930s to Today,” while the Libraries will examine personal and institutional collecting with “Electric Collections.”
Absolutely A Cappella
Join us for one of the most popular Family Weekend traditions: Absolutely A Cappella! Our a cappella student groups will put on a spectacular show for the whole family.
Residential Community Festivals
Rep your community! Each residential community will offer a variety of activities, such as outdoor games, competitions and sports games.
Late Nite Carnival
Mechanical bulls, carnival games and cannon blasters -- Late Nite has it all. There will be a lot of prizes, so don’t miss the Carnival!
8th Annual Running with the Goats Fun Run/Walk
Want to exercise for a good cause? The 8th Annual Fun Run/Walk will raise funds to purchase Galla goats for the Maasai tribe in Kenya. The goats are profitable and nourishing for the tribe.
Department Open Houses
Get to know Binghamton by attending any of the University’s department open houses. The Koffman Southern Tier Incubator provides space, resources and support for entrepreneurs -- so check it out during Family Weekend.
Tours through the Nature Preserve
If you’re in need of fresh air, don’t hesitate to visit Binghamton’s preferred green space, the Nature Preserve. Explore it on any of the tours happening throughout the weekend.
