Project Description
The Windsor Central School District is currently recruiting for a number of credit-bearing internships for the Spring 2020 semester! The Windsor Middle School Mentor Program is a partnership between Binghamton University and the Windsor Middle School. Students participating in this internship have the option to receive 2 or 4 credits and are required to attend a weekly seminar through the Fleishman Center's CDCI program. The semester will be on Wednesdays from 6 - 7 PM. The seminar is taught by Kevin Strahley, Middle School Principal and Binghamton University alumnus! ´╗┐Some transportation to the internship is available provided by the school district. 2-credit interns must complete 60 hours of service and should plan to spend a minimum of 5-7 hours per week working with a middle school student in addition to the seminar. 4-credit interns must complete 120 hours and should plan to spend a minimum of 10-15 hours per week working with a middle school student in addition to the seminar. Binghamton University student mentors will: Provide middle school students with role models and extra academic support Encourage students to develop their organizational, planning and social skills Learn how to work with and mentor middle school students and be a reliable academic and social support Binghamton University student mentors will gain: Experience working in an award-winning school district Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds and ages Transferable workplace skills such as professionalism, communication, leadership, patience, etc. Networking opportunities with educators at Windsor If you have any questions, please reach out to the Kayla LaVoice at the Center for Civic Engagement at klavoic1@binghamton.edu or Principal Kevin Strahley at Kstrahley@windsor-csd.org.
