Project Description
WSKG Public Media has a spring internship opportunity available for a student currently enrolled in a degree program at an accredited two- or four-year college. This internship will give the aspiring broadcast journalist an opportunity to be mentored in a work-based learning experience. WSKG is an equal opportunity provider and strives to develop a richly diverse workplace.Find out more about WSKG in particular, and public broadcasting in general, by visiting wskg.org and searching "Local Content Report,” and pbs.org/about/corporate-information/.

Period: February 1 - May 5, 2016 (tentative dates based on the needs of the station and the selected student)
Hours: 130 (approximately)

Description:
The intern will assist the managing editor with the essentials of broadcast journalism for radio, television, and online media, and work closely with the News & Public Affairs Department staff. Schedule of hours will be flexible and may include some nights, weekends, and early weekday mornings, but the intern must have availability during normal weekday business hours. WSKG's internships are learning experiences and are unpaid.

Qualifications:
The internship should be a requirement or option of the degree program in which the student is enrolled. In order to qualify for this internship, students must be excellent writers and computer literate, as well as have reliable transportation. The successful student will be a self-starter with a "go getter” approach, and have an interest in current affairs and a familiarity with public broadcasting. While experience with editing software is preferred, it is not essential.

Any student accepted for an internship must submit a statement from his or her school attesting that the student is enrolled there and that the course of instruction leads to a degree, diploma, or certificate.
