Welcome to the Binghamton University Community Schools (BUCS) Regional Network! We are a university-assisted community schools (UACS) approach. The BUCS Regional Network is a partnership between Binghamton University, school districts, and community agencies that leverages the resources of higher education, community partners, and schools to reduce barriers to learning for students in PK-12. This network assists with creating an equitable school environment through the implementation of the five community school characteristics of:
- Active Family Engagement
- Extended learning opportunities
- Community Engagement
- Integrated student support
- Collaborative leadership
The RN is open to all Broome County public and private schools who wish to partner with Binghamton University with the support of Community Schools coordinators who are placed in the district to coordinate, convene, and support the development of the Community Schools approach and promote school district's priorities.
The Regional Network facilitates the first county-wide university-assisted community school network, providing capacity building, technical assistance, and a network of partnership. For the 2022-23 year, the RN consists of 9 districts, 44 school buildings, 4 Broome Tioga BOCES sites, and 21 community school coordinators while serving approximately 17,500 K-12 students.
